engine-braking system (EBS) that lets it
creep around switchback corners in low
range, with a quick disengagement of
4WD helping bend the T4 around what
would be three-point turns in any other
four-seat UTV. After the turn, go back
to 4WD for maximum engine braking on
HOW DOES THE TERYX HANDLE?
Just like the Teryx 800. The Teryx4
has a great combination of turning
prowess and straight-line stability, and
engine braking helps it set up drifts into
turns in 2WD, giving it an even tighter
turning radius. With a lower center of
While the tilt hood is gone, the high-placed air and electrical boxes,
coolant reservoir and EPS unit can be accessed via the removable
hood panel. The new fender-brace bar can be replaced if damaged,
and it supports the weight of the LE’s quad LED lights.
While the Teryx has a regular dump bed with a 600-pound capacity
and a storage box behind the seats, the Teryx4 has a fixed bed with
a 249-pound capacity. Both deliver a 1300-pound towing capacity
with the 2-inch hitch receiver. Rear travel is 8. 3 inches with revised
shock settings for a smoother ride.
gravity, 70 pounds less weight and less
travel than the Honda 1000-5, it’s very
sporty in turns, and the front torsion bar
fights body roll.
WHAT ABOUT THE SUSPENSION?
It’s much improved. New valving in
the Fox Podium X 2.0 shocks yields
a much smoother ride on rocks and
better bottoming resistance on water
bars and G-outs. Travel is still 8.0
inches in front and 8. 3 inches in the
rear, but the ride is improved with
compression set at 12 of 24 clicks. This
gives a lot of adjustment for bed load or
WHAT ABOUT ROCKS AND MUD?
EPS keeps rock impacts from the
driver, and we smacked many rocks
hidden under several inches of snow.
Boulder fields are more easily negotiated
thanks to the double-X frame’s upswept
sides and approach angle, and we’ve
had no problem turning 30-inch tires on
the Teryx4. This helps extend the ground
clearance, which is 11. 2 inches with
stock 27-inch tires, to 12. 7 inches. When
mud ruts get deeper than 11. 2 inches
the underside drags, but the Teryx4 has
awesome roost protection in the new
bodywork with wide fenders and half
