COULD THIS BE THE NEW
YAMAHA UTV ENGINE?
Yamaha is set to announce its new high-performance
UTV as this issue goes on sale, and we got teasers
on You Tube ( https://youtu.be/BsPy_AVxlCc) about
the machine leaving a RZR in its dust. R1 motorcycle
engines powering Dustin Nelson’s SR1 Wolverine
1000 have a problematic chain drive that would
have to be converted to shaft for a 4WD UTV. More
likely, Yamaha would go to its snowmobile line,
which have CVTs, and the three-cylinder SRViper
X-TX EFI engine displaces 1049cc and produces
some 140 horsepower.
Starting at $12,299, the 62-horsepower,
839cc V-twin has a higher top speed
and optional variable-assist EPS, chassis
pre-wired for a winch, and front 2-inch
receiver with recovery hooks. Available
in green/yellow and Realtree Hardwoods
HD, the 2016 RSX860i has 9 inches of
travel and is 56. 5 inches wide.
Yamaha’s highly anticipated RZR-roosting UTV could be
powered by this three-cylinder SRViper X-TX snowmobile
engine, which displaces 1049cc and makes 140
horsepower, or its four-cylinder, 998cc Apex X-TX, which
produces 160 horsepower with EFI induction.
