With a drain pan or bucket below the car, locate this 5mm
Allen head bolt at the bottom of the aluminum pan next to
the oil filter. Remove it, and let the oil drain.
When the oil has finished draining, unscrew the old oil filter,
letting the rest of the oil drain into your catch can.
Apply a light coating of new oil to the O-ring seal of the new
oil filter. Also, clean the engine drain bolt. If you purchased a
Yamaha OEM oil/filter kit (#LUB-SXSCG-KT- 10, $66.99), new
copper washers will be supplied with it for the engine drain
plug and dry-sump drain plug.
Clean all of the mating surfaces where the drain plug and
oil filter mount to the engine.
Install the new oil filter, tightening to 12 foot-pounds. If you
feel inclined, you can pour a small amount of fresh oil into the
new filter before installation to prime it. Tighten the drain-plug
Allen bolt to 7. 2 foot-pounds.
Remove the three 10mm hex head bolts that hold the
plastic cover on the bottom of the dry-sump tank, just inside
the passenger’s rear wheel well.
