HOW TO CHANGE YOUR
If you think of oil as being the lifeblood of your UTV, it becomes apparent how vital it is to the engine’s life span. Keeping clean, fresh oil in your engine is cheap insurance against premature engine wear, especially
with today’s high-revving, high-performance UTVs. We put our long-term YXZ1000R SS up on the rack to shoot a how-to for those who
own YXZs. Please note that the instructions are identical for 2016 and
2017 YXZ1000R and SS models, so this will cover all of Yamaha’s high-performance UTVs!
First, remove the five quick-release fasteners that hold the airbox and
oil-sump cover on at the front of the bed. Clean any dirt away from the
oil tank’s threads and remove the dipstick.
Remove the vehicle’s skid plate. This is
easier if you have access to a lift, but it can
be done on the ground as well. These are all
10mm hex head bolts.
Locate the engine fill plug on top of
the valve cover and remove it. This will
help the engine vent as the oil drains.
