HOW ABOUT THE BRAKES?
to develop your 4x4 riding skills. It’s
super easy to ride, handles like it’s
attached to your brain stem and steers
easily without EPS. Ergonomics and
provide excellent ergonomics for a
wide variety of riders. We especially like
the half-waffle grips and well-shaped,
comfortable seat. Engine noise is low,
and the EFI engine doesn’t require
warm-up time and choke like the old
carbureted 400. The 6. 5 gallons of
storage under the tilting front rack
and rear under-storage are handy too.
We also really like the third 50-watt
headlight on the instrument pod for
seeing around corners on night rides.
Strong and linked together. Having
all four hydraulic disc brakes linked
together cuts weight, cost and
complexity, but more skilled riders
prefer separate front and rear systems
like sport quads have. The auxiliary
brake pedal doesn’t pivot at the
front like the old 400, and the frame-mounted master cylinder sits in front
of the airbox. The pedal only slows the
rear wheels, like the AWD system on
downhills. There is a manual parking
brake on the handlebar lever, plus Park
mode in the transmission.
WHAT’S OUR FINAL ANSWER?
The all-new Sportsman ETX doesn’t
stretch your arms or empty your bank
account like the Sportsman XP 1000,
ride quality are confidence-inspiring,
and the ProStar EFI engine is much
more fuel efficient yet produces
more power than the old 455cc
New for 2015, the Polaris Sportsman ETX replaces the old carburetor-fed 400 with the
325cc ProStar EFI-fed engine from the Sportsman Ace, and it shares its frame, plastic and
components with the Sportsman 570.
