OEM tires, although they’re only 25
inches on base and EPS-LE models
and 26 inches on the Deluxe. The XP
900 has the power to turn much taller
tires too.
HOW ABOUT THE BRAKES?
They’re worthy of a sport UTV. The
XP 900 has four-wheel hydraulic disc
brakes, and the front calipers are twin
puck. Stainless-steel brake lines swell
less when pressure is applied, so the
Ranger stops as hard as it accelerates.
It also has low range to slow it on steep
hills, but no EBS or ADC like high-end
Sportsman ATVs; it does have park in
the transmission.
HOW ABOUT TRAIL COMFORT?
“TC” should be its nickname. The
Deluxe’s custom seats are awesome,
and the doors provide easy entrance/
egress and security on the trail. The
satellite radio and audio system are
awesome, and there is plenty of
storage space in the console and dash
recesses. Vibration and engine noise
in the cabin are minimal, and the driver
has EPS, a custom tilt wheel and an
adjustable seat. The passenger has
one grab point on the ROPS upright
and dead pedals for bracing, and
the cage is designed for accessory
roofs, windshields and even full-cab
enclosures.
WHAT’S OUR FINAL ANSWER?
The Polaris Ranger XP 900 is a hot
rod that also does heavy lifting with a
1000-pound capacity bed and 1-ton
towing. The Ranger Deluxe is like an
off-road limousine. It has an awesome
engine, excellent CVT and 4WD
systems, suspension, handling, brakes
and trail comfort. As the styling implies,
the Ranger XP 900 has a lot of RZR
DNA, so it’s as much fun on the trail
or a weekend outing as it is effective
on the job site during the week. Check
out coverage of the High Lifter Mud
Nationals to see the heights the XP 900
can be lifted to. ❏
