INSIDE SCOOP
WIENEN WINS TWO AMA
ATV-MXs
As he has in the two previous years,
Wienen Motorsports’ Chad Wienen
won the opening round of the Mountain
Dew AMA ATV-MX Nationals at Aonia
Pass MX in Washington, Georgia. The
two-time champion laid down the
fastest time in qualifying to take the
ATVRiders.com $1000 Top Qualifier
award, but it was John Natalie who
took the first holeshot of the year. Joel
Hetrick passed Natalie and led for eight
laps, but Wienen was not to be denied.
He won the moto over Hetrick, Josh
Creamer, Natalie and Thomas Brown.
Natalie took his Honda to another
holeshot in moto two and led every lap
ahead of Wienen, who took the overall
with a 1-2, followed by Hetrick, Creamer
and Brown.
Wienen and Natalie again traded paint
and motos in Tennessee, and Natalie
pulled his third consecutive holeshot of
the year ahead of Chad and dirt-track
champ Brad Riley in the first Muddy
Creek moto. Riley eventually faded
to sixth, his best ATV-MX Pro finish,
while Natalie and Wienen duked it out
on the revamped track. Joel Hetrick
was third in moto one but didn’t fare
so well in moto two. Josh Upperman
stripped Natalie of a fourth holeshot
award and led Wienen for several laps
before succumbing to pressure from the
Yamaha. Natalie took third for the moto
and second overall, and Upperman was
third overall, moving from seventh in
points to fourth. Will Wienen win a third
title and match or surpass his season
win record of seven rounds?

Chad Wienen traded moto wins with archrival
John Natalie Junior at the season ATV-MX opener
in Georgia and Muddy Creek, Tennessee, and he
already stretches his points lead to six, as he hasn’t
finished worse than second in a 2014 moto.
Working much like a 12-volt
brake light or RV light, the

fitting needs just a push
and a turn to disconnect
or connect performance
brake lines. Who wants
to risk getting brake
fluid on a sweet

bubbles in the

POLARIS JOINS THE BOY
SCOUTS
Polaris Industries Inc., the leading
manufacturer of off-road vehicles
(ORVs), announced that the company
has entered a 10-year, exclusive
partnership with the Boy Scouts of
America (BSA), the largest youth
organization in the U.S., to provide all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), side-by-sides
(SxS) and safety equipment to select
Boy Scout camps across the country.
The partnership promotes youth off-
road safety practices, environmental
respect and the benefits of outdoor
activities. Polaris has donated ORVs and
safety gear to the BSA’s Northern Star
Council’s Tomahawk Scout Reservation,
the second largest Boy Scout camp
in the nation, and the Northern Lights
Council’s Camp Wilderness. The pilot
programs at these camps were very
popular, with more than 900 Boy Scouts
learning basic riding and maintenance
skills while earning safety patches. This
10-year partnership will improve and
extend the reach of these courses.
“The off-road vehicle pilot we
conducted in conjunction with Polaris
and several local council camps proved
to be both successful and very popular
among the youth,” said chief scout
executive Wayne Brock. “As we work to
keep our programs relevant to the youth
of today and tomorrow, we are grateful
for this opportunity to work closely
with Polaris.;We are excited that, in the
coming years, with the help of Polaris,
we will be able to teach youths safe and
responsible practices for the use of off-
road vehicles.”
Polaris vehicles available to camp
visitors for the program include the
easy-to-use Phoenix 200, Sportsman
570 EPS and RZR 170 youth SxS. As
part of the donation, Polaris will adjust
models as needed and replace older
units over time to ensure that Boy
Scouts always have the most up-to-date and age-appropriate vehicles
available.
Add Boy Scouts of America youth camps and
jamborees to the places like the ATV Safety Institute
(ASI), where your children can learn safe OHV
practices, gain mechanical experience and develop
riding skills. Or, ride demo RZRs at Dunefest or
ATVs/UTVs at Jericho Fest in New Hampshire.
GALFER QUICK-DISCONNECT
BRAKE FITTINGS
Many top racers drag their brakes to
keep control of their ATV in rough terrain,
and GNCC hero Scott Summers would
keep an entire rear-brake system on
hand in case he boiled his high-temp
brake fluid. Galfer now has an answer
that allows a quick disconnect to swap
brake parts without leaks or getting air
in the lines. Galfer’s Quick Disconnect
fittings (#FK002D2QD) are machined
from high-quality billet aluminum, and
a spring-loaded mechanism prevents
fluid leaks or introduction of air into lines
when swapping components or servicing
for $185 MSRP each. See your Galfer
USA dealer or www.galferusa.com.
