Acceleration and grip were impressive with the stock tires and wheels. It
should be—the well-outfitted Jagged X
Edition RZR has one of the best tire and
wheel combinations of any stock UTV.
For soft-terrain-focused tires, the
Blackwater Evolutions got very good
traction on the mixed terrain course and
noticeably better grip than the Bighorns
in soft sand and mud. As expected,
when going from the stock 26-inch tire
size to 30s, we lost some acceleration
due to the change in gearing from the
larger-diameter tires, but we gained 2
inches of valuable ground clearance.
Many UTVs, especially four-seaters and
long-wheelbase models like the Jagged
X RZR, run short on clearance in rocky
and deeply rutted terrain, and 30-inch
tires are a popular solution. A clutch kit
from EPI or other leading clutch tuners
can restore the gearing to stock settings.
The 15-inch SS212 wheels gave
the 30-inch tires enough sidewall for a
comfortable ride, but the 30-inch isn’t a
flexy, high-profile tire. The XP 900 feels
a little taller with the aftermarket tires
and wheels, but the sturdy, eight-ply
Blackwater Evolutions provide the fast,
quick-turning RZR with a crisp-cornering
feel like the stock tire and wheelset.
We didn’t get a flat with the stock or
ITP tires, but the Blackwater Evolution’s
eight-ply construction and “sidewall
armor” gave us extra confidence to
carry speed in rocks.

ITP’s new Blackwater Evolution
tire is a development of the original
Blackwater, one of the first tires to provide excellent traction in soft terrain and
mud, with impressive performance and
handling in general trail use.
The Blackwater Evolution includes
several new features aimed at the special needs of UTV drivers, including
extremely tough, eight-ply, radial construction with sidewall-armor-reinforced
sidewalls, a new, longer-wearing rubber
compound, and availability in 30-inch
sizes. You can get them for 15-inch
wheels too. Suggested retail pricing
starts at $210 and ranges to $276 for
the big 30s, but we’ve found them on
sale from $140 to $205. That’s less
than other eight-ply radials. Even on
sale, most start at $165 and up.
We had the tires mounted to ITP’s
stylish 15-inch SS212 wheels. Like
all ITP wheels, the SS212’s feature a
lifetime structural warranty. These one-piece, cast-aluminum wheels are styled
like modular wheels, and they’re available in a wide range of finishes, including, chrome, platinum, black and the
machined look we tested. Suggested
retail prices for SS212s start at $100,
but we’ve seen them on sale for $80.

We tested the 30-inch ITP Blackwater
Evolutions on our Polaris RZR XP 900
Jagged X Edition. Unlike many UTVs,
the RZR comes with high-quality, six-ply
