If your carrier isn’t broken but the front diff is noisy, there’s a relatively easy fix. Before replacing the diff in the frame,
undo the driveshaft assembly-holder circlip and remove the entire bevel gear assembly. Remove the retaining clip and
use a puller to create a gap between bearing and the drive-gear assembly. Press the bearing off of the shaft and remove
the spacer. Press the bearing back onto the shaft center the spacer behind the bearing and replace the circlip. Replace
the assembly into the diff housing and reinstall the large circlip. Now go to step 15. This can be done without removing
the diff from the car, but it’s a real pain unless you have proper tools, including a large circlip plier with 45-degree tips.;❏
We drilled a hole in the seal, inserted a screw and pried the seal out of the
housing, then removed the large circlip holding the bevel-gear assembly. Undo
the small circlip, pull the bearing off of the shaft and remove the spacer.
Press the bearing home on the bevel gear, center the spacer as shown and
replace the circlip. Insert the assembly in the diff case, replace the large
circlip and install the new seal. Go to Step 15.
