HOW IS THE HANDLING?
Very good. The Teryx has very little
body roll, and it turns in effortlessly
and drifts predictably. There is a good
balance between turning prowess and
straight-line stability, but deep whoops
upset the chassis. It’s great in the
woods and on rocks but not in fast
desert terrain. EPS lightens steering
effort so much that Lumpy drove 120
miles on Hatfield-McCoy trails with one
HOW IS IT IN DEEP MUD?
As long as the mud ruts are less
than a foot deep, the Teryx 800 does
well in the deep stuff. Extra power and
suspension make it better than the old
750, and the ducts are placed very high
in the chassis, with the engine drawing
air from under the hood and the CVT’s
ducting behind the cabin at bed level.
Water comes in the cab through the
floor in deep stream crossings, and
Here’s the Brute Force-based engine, which was stroked 3mm to
produce 783cc. New pistons bump compression to 10.7:1 for 2014.
The new engine produces 26 percent more power, 12 percent more
torque and 20 percent more fuel range.
While the T- 4 has the shortest wheelbase of any four-seat UTV, the
new Teryx 800 is long with an 85.8-inch wheelbase. This makes it
super stable on rough straights, but it sometimes requires backing up
to make it around tight switchbacks.
Kawasaki designed the 600-pound-capacity bed so that it can be
partitioned with owner-cut 1x12s or accessory dividers from the
dealer. There are also drink holders formed into the tailgate. It tows
1300 pounds too.
In place of the T- 4 rear seats, the Teryx 800 has a cool plastic
storage bin with 182 liters of storage space, lockable lids (your locks)
and a center section for a small cooler that’s accessible from the front
Width is 61. 6 inches, and the aggressively
styled bodywork has high-intensity LED
headlights, plus the new tubular LE brush
guard has mounts for auxiliary lights. Best
yet, it’s protected by a three-year Kawasaki-strong warranty!
The sunroof has channels to direct runoff
to the sides, so your cargo in the tilting bed
stays drier. The tailgate is easily removable.
