and hardpacked dirt. For its size and
weight, the Sportsman is a very good-handling machine, but its tremendous
power challenges tires to find traction
on almost any surface. The Bearclaw
Evos bettered the Sportsman’s stock
tires slightly on hardpack and in rocks
with stronger acceleration and surer
braking. Cornering was very secure. In
soft sand, the Kenda tires hooked up
extremely well, and it was easy to see
how the Bearclaw Evo has produced
championship-winning results in GNCC
racing. Large, heavy, powerful 4x4s
challenge wheels with their torque and
the rugged terrain they charge through,
but the 551s were more than up to the
task. These wheels are engineered for
UTV use, so strength isn’t an issue,
and the flanged design adds strength
for slamming through rocks. Like many
aftermarket wheels, you’ll need spline-drive or 14mm hex lug nuts to mount
the 551s, because there isn’t room in
the lug recesses to put a socket on the
stock Polaris 17mm hex lugs. Vision

Kenda’s Bearclaw Evo offers the
high-level traction and handling riders of
high-performance 4x4 ATVs are looking

WHAT IT IS:
Vision’s newest wheel design, the
Kenda’s new Bearclaw Evo is the
latest evolution of Kenda’s Bearclaw
all-terrain ATV tire. It has the same
tough six-ply-rated construction, with a
meaner, deeper, more aggressive tread
design. The price—$101 to $149 is
about $7 to $15 per tire higher than the
original Bearclaw—that’s still $20 lower
than many other big-name six-ply all-
terrain tires. You can get the Bearclaw
Evo in popular original-equipment tire
sizes and up to 27 inches.
551, is a one-piece cast-aluminum
wheel with a beadlock look and
contrasting color choices for the
replaceable reinforcing ring. The 551 is
available with red, blue, yellow or green
rings in 12- and 14-inch sizes. At $110
to $120 each, the 551 is priced like
conventional cast-aluminum wheels.
To test the Bearclaw Evo and the
Vision 551 wheels, we fitted them to
the Polaris Sportsman XP 1000, an
extremely powerful 4x4 ATV, and ran
a loop that included sand, rocky trails,
Vision’s 551 one-piece wheels have beautifully
finished beadlock looks with relieved, color-contrasting reinforcing rings that are available
in red, blue, yellow or green.
Kenda’s Bearclaw Evo builds on the performance of
the original Bearclaw with a meaner, deeper, more
aggressive tread design.
