WHAT ABOUT THE BRAKES?
They’re great! Four-wheel disc brakes
are backed up by full-time four-wheel
engine braking (in 4WD) and a fifth disc
for the mechanical parking brake. The
Bighorn 2.0 tires also provide more
braking traction than the Rhino offers.
WHAT’S OUR FINAL ANSWER?
Although the all-new Viking was
designed from the ground up as a work
vehicle for the farm, ranch or job site,
it’s actually sportier than even the Sport
Edition Rhino. It’s faster than a Rhino
700 in a straight line and in corners,
and it can tackle steeper hills and gnarly
obstacles. Every feature and function of
the Viking surpasses the Rhino, except
the price! Even the fuel tank is larger for
more range. The non-EPS Viking has
the same MSRP as the base-model
Rhino, and the EPS versions are $900
less than the Rhino SE! We’re stoked
with the Viking’s fun factor and work
capabilities, and we can’t wait to see
what Yamaha’s next sport UTV will be
like. q

Yamaha kept the rugged, 686cc engine
that powered the Rhino and Grizzly, but the
new upper end produces more compression,
power and airflow with its long intake tract,
huge air filter and stainless steel exhaust. It
also meets 2014 EPA standards.
