Meaner Grizzly,
two new UTVs
and the Kodiak
is back!
The Wolverine R-Spec EPS Special Edition comes in white with black and
gray graphics and trick, six-spoke, cast aluminum wheels. Not only that, but
its DOHC, 708cc EFI engine makes its way into the new Grizzly and Kodiak
ATVs, and there’s an all-new sport UTV on the horizon.
Yamaha goes big for 2016 to celebrate its 60th anniversary with a total makeover of the Grizzly 700, two new Wolverine sport UTVs, an all-new Raptor 90, retro-yellow-and-black Raptor 700 and YFZ450R Special
Editions, and an all-new Kodiak 700 in three equipment packages starting at
$6999! The new Grizzly and Kodiak 4x4s are powered by the 708cc DOHC
engine from the Wolverine R-Spec UTV, leaving only the utility Viking and
Viking VI UTVs powered by the 686cc SOHC motor from the game-changing
Rhino 700. The base-model Kodiak replaces the Grizzly 500 and 450 with a
state-of-the-art 708cc engine at a 450cc price.
MIXING GRIZZLY AND WOLVERINE
DNA
Sliding the R-Spec UTV motor into
the Grizzly 700 frame increases displacement by 22cc, power by 6 percent and torque by 9 percent, and the
Grizzly gets a new intake system with
a 140mm-longer airbox boot and an
air filter like the Raptor 700’s with more
volume (up 6800mm2) and airflow.
This extra velocity increases low-to-mid
power, and the CVT high-range gear
ratio is lowered by 5 percent to work
with 26-inch Maxxis tires (MU05Y front,
MU06Y rear four-ply). Also, Yamaha
reduces the CVT weights from 21
grams to 18 grams for sportier engage-
ment, and the CVT duct intake is 31. 4
inches high for deep water and mud.
Moving the filter from under the faux
tank cowling to under the new, 60mm-
longer and flatter seat frees up space
for a new 9-pound-capacity top storage
compartment, in addition to the watertight fender cubby and 4.4-pound
rear bin under the new LED tail- and
brake light. New larger-diameter racks
have more capacity (110-pound front
and 198-pound rear), and new blow-molded plastic covers protect the front
