ATV Action: Congratulations on your
second ATV-MX Pro 450 championship.
How have you prepared over the winter
for this championship run?
Chad Wienen: We headed down
south right after Christmas and started
riding for a couple of days at Panama
City, Florida, to try to knock the rust
off. Then we headed to Walsh for some
suspension testing and got with Chris
Borich and Johnny Gallagher. Those guys
are really fun to ride with, so we never
really left. That elevated my training to
another level. Being a champion, Borich
knows what it takes to win at that level
and what it takes to get the job done.
ATV Action: How was training with
GNCC champ Chris Borich, and what
did you learn from him?
Wienen: Training with Chris was
really good. He pushes himself and
is used to training with Jeremy and
a couple of people he has around
him. He’s on a whole other level,
comparatively, and me stepping in and
training with him pushed us both in our
daily training. I picked up a few things
from him, like how to hammer a section
out. There’s always something you can
learn, like how to elevate your game
every single day.
ATV Action: Have there been any
changes in your program over the off-season?
Wienen: No really big changes. I
picked up a few sponsors for this year,
like Crank Works, Evans and Antigravity
Batteries; they’ve helped us drop a
couple of pounds off our stuff. We’re
making our stuff work a lot better, and
a little bit less pain is beneficial. I’ve
been in motorsports a long time and
have picked up what works and what
doesn’t, and I’ve been real fortunate to
have the right people around me.
ATV Action: Who’re the people and
companies behind Wienen Motorsports?
Wienen: Yamaha, SSI Decals, Maxxis
Tires, Walsh Racecraft, Fly Racing, FMF
Racing, Malaska Motorsports, K&N,
Shoei Helmets, Scott Goggles, Maxima
Lubricants, VP Racing, Fox Shocks,
and Goldspeed Wheels; they’ve helped

Chad really likes the changes
to the 2014 YFZ450R, like
the improved power and
suspension and A&S slipper
clutch, and those upgrades
were lessons learned from his
2012 machine and season.

is meticulous preparation,
