Honda’s 686cc, fuel-injected TRX700XX marked many firsts for Big Red. Its 102mm bore is the largest-diameter single cylinder that Honda has ever produced, and it was designed to produce stump-pulling torque right off the showroom floor. A torquey yet smooth big-bore motor was coupled with an independent rear suspension.
Looking for the plushest ride that could handle the roughest terrain at speed, Honda avoided the conventional sport
quad, solid-rear-axle suspension in favor of a unique, rear, dual-A-arm design. While similar to some IRS utility machines,
this long-travel IRS rear end featured equal-length axles, keeping the rear sprocket and brake disc as close to the centerline of the machine as possible.
This design was released looking for the King of the Desert title, just like the XR650R dirt bike. The motor was very
similar to the XR650R’s, but the 700XX wasn’t as well received, though it has a loyal following now. The TRX700XX
didn’t fare well in the reviews, as in stock form it lacked a little performance when compared to the competition. In an
effort to prove the bike’s worthiness, Honda helped with a Baja effort, and the 700XX quickly proved it could win in the
desert. The 700XX loves high-speed trail riding, and when set up correctly, it eats up the biggest of bumps as well.
What made the race bikes better than the stocker? We can show you; it really doesn’t take that much to turn the
700XX into the most comfortable trail or desert sport ATV you could possibly own.
1.) EXHAUST & FUEL
A free-flowing exhaust system is the
quickest way to bolt on and extract
extra power out of most any stock ATV.
The 700XX is no different, and its high-tech fuel injection allows you to simply
