Fourth annual rock-crawling
jamboree with new twists!
Moab, Utah, is mostly a tourist town, with Arches and Canyonlands National Parks drawing people from all over the world, but its slick-rock surroundings are also a Mecca for motorsports
enthusiasts and mountain bikers. When UTV rally organizers were putting the first event together, five sites
were considered, but Moab won out for its many fun
and challenging trails, and the jamboree has grown
like wildfire ever since.
New for 2013, Kymco came on as title sponsor for
Rally on the Rocks (ROTR), and three new “tech trails”
were added to the extensive list of guided rides. To
test the skills and nerve of the most experienced rock
crawlers, Lanse and Jared added the most technical
trails Moab offers to the ride list—Pritchett Canyon,
Area BFE and Hell’s Revenge, including Escalator and
Hot Tubs. To do these trails, participants had to pass
tech inspection, with UTVs sporting long-travel suspension (RZR S or longer), winches, full-body skids, flat-fix
kits, tools, straps, fou-point harnesses, six-point cages,
and DOT-approved helmets for all drivers and passengers.
