WILDCAT X ANCESTOR
While at the 2013 Pound Sand Show
in Surprise, Arizona, we came across an
ancient relative of the Arctic Cat Wildcat
X—a 2005 Swift Sand Car Cricket.
Powered by a 1000cc Arctic Cat two-stroke snowmobile engine, the Cricket
sported King shocks with 24 inches of
front travel and over 3 feet of rear travel!
Beard seats and a digital dash highlight
the spartan cab, and beadlock rims grip
How do you think these puppies sound when
the 1000cc, two-stroke triple gets three flat
slides yanked open? That mechanical disc
brake seems woefully inadequate, though.
Those wanting to own a piece of history should call Ride Now at (866) 343-9334 to check out
the $15,999 Cricket 1000.
KAWASAKI HAS 310 HP FOR YOU
The new Teryx 800 is the fastest Teryx yet, and the Brute Force 750 and
KFX450R are rockets, but if way-too-much power is just enough for you, you
can always use the supercharged, inter-cooled, 16-valve, double-overhead-cam,
1498cc, inline four-cylinder engine from Kawasaki’s jet-ski Ultra 310X. Adapting the
310-horsepower monster to your ATV or UTV will require serious mechanical creativity and an unhealthy lack of fear, but it’s good to know the option is there when
Kawasaki’s supercharged, inter-cooled,
310-horsepower jet-ski engine is brutally
powerful and beautifully compact. Look at
the neat way the belt-driven blower nestles
near the engine cases.
The cast-aluminum chamber on the
supercharged Kawasaki inline four is the
intercooler. It keeps the incoming air cool
and dense for maximum power.
